Norway has announced a new large-scale military support package for Ukraine. The country’s government will allocate 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner for the development, purchase and supply of naval drones for the Ukrainian defense forces.

This is stated in the official statement of the country’s government.

The funding will be provided within the framework of the Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine – the key mechanism of Norwegian military and civilian assistance to Ukraine. In terms of conversion, this is approximately 109 million euros or more than 120 million dollars.

The Norwegian government explained that the new program provides for the supply of naval drones both through the Norwegian defense sector and with the participation of the Ukrainian defense industry. Part of the funds may be directed directly to the development of Ukrainian technologies and production.

Naval drones are used by Ukraine for reconnaissance, strike operations, protection of sea routes and deterrence of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. Norway emphasizes that unmanned maritime systems have already proven their effectiveness in modern warfare.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that the Norwegian maritime industry is one of the strongest in the world, and its potential should work to support the Ukrainian struggle for freedom.

Separately, Oslo emphasized the importance of protecting sea routes for Ukrainian exports, in particular grain corridors in the Black Sea, which remain critically important for the Ukrainian economy and global food security.

In total, Norway has provided 85 billion Norwegian kroner in aid for Ukraine in 2026. Of this, 70 billion kroner is military support, another 15 billion is humanitarian and civilian assistance.
