On June 16, during the second Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg, the European Union officially announced the start of negotiations with Ukraine under the first negotiation cluster within the framework of the EU accession procedure.
As reported by “European Pravda”, Ukraine received a common negotiating position from the European Union, which contains the interim and final criteria necessary for membership.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to fulfill all conditions and adapt national legislation to European Union law, both in its current version and taking into account future changes.
“Ukraine will fulfill the accession conditions and European Union law in the form in which it exists today, as well as taking into account the changes that will occur before our accession,” he emphasized.
During the conference, the Ukrainian side also officially confirmed its agreement to fulfill all EU negotiation criteria.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Cos called the opening of the first cluster a “mega-event” for the European Union enlargement process. According to her, Ukraine and Moldova have fulfilled their obligations on the path to membership.
In addition, Marta Cos expressed hope that Ukraine will be able to open five more negotiation clusters in July, which will significantly accelerate the negotiation process and bring the country closer to full membership in the European Union.
The opening of the first negotiation cluster is one of the key stages on Ukraine’s path to EU accession and demonstrates the support of European partners for the country’s reform course and European integration aspirations.
