Possible damage to the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant will not lead to large-scale flooding of residential areas in the capital. Kyiv has already developed algorithms for responding to such emergencies, and municipal services have an action plan to provide residents with water in the event of interruptions.
This was stated on the air of the Kyiv Time program by the head of the Obolon District State Administration of Kyiv, Kyrylo Fesyk.
According to him, experts have repeatedly modeled scenarios of possible flooding after potential strikes on the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant. According to the prepared maps, most of the territories that may fall into the flooding zone are not densely populated.
“The dam was hit dozens of times with various weapons, but it withstands these strikes. We conducted city-wide exercises related to possible attacks on the hydroelectric power plant, and I want to assure people that residential buildings are in the minimal risk zone,” Fesyk noted.
The official also spoke about the capital’s readiness for possible water supply interruptions. According to him, it is much easier to provide districts with water in the summer than in the winter, when water trucks cannot actually work due to severe frosts.
There are currently up to five water trucks in the Obolon district, but in the event of an emergency, Kyiv districts will interact with each other and promptly reinforce each other with equipment and resources.
Fesyk also emphasized that after the massive shelling of energy and critical infrastructure in the winter, the capital’s utility services already have the necessary experience in rapid response. According to him, the city has trained specialists, work algorithms, and a stock of necessary parts, so long-term water or electricity outages in the event of new attacks are not predicted.
Let us recall that in 2024, Russian troops repeatedly attacked the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant. At that time, the Center for Countering Disinformation stated that the structure of the station is extremely massive and protected, so its complete destruction as a result of a missile strike is unlikely.
