Court finally confirms sentence for three attackers
The Supreme Court of Ukraine has upheld the verdict of the first instance court against a former junior inspector of a correctional colony and two of his accomplices, who in December 2018 committed a robbery and brutal murder of a farmer in the village of Saksaganske, Krynychansky district, Dnipropetrovsk region.
The court dismissed the defendants’ cassation appeals.
The attack on the family was planned in advance
As reported, the attackers planned the crime in advance with the aim of seizing the farmer’s money and property.
The attackers broke into the victim’s house, where his family members, including two infants, were at the time. The armed attackers tied up the adult family members and began to torture the owner of the house, demanding to know where the money was stored.
Farmer tortured and threatened to kill family
According to the investigation, the man was shot in the arm and leg, severely beaten and threatened with reprisals against his loved ones. Unable to withstand the torture, the farmer told where the safe with the money was located.
After that, the attackers stole about 580 thousand hryvnias, which at that time amounted to more than 21 thousand US dollars.
After the robbery, the farmer was fatally stabbed
After taking possession of the money, one of the attackers fatally stabbed the victim in the chest.
While fleeing the crime scene, the attackers tried to use the farmer’s car, but due to the steering wheel being locked, they were unable to continue driving and abandoned the vehicle.
All three sentenced to life imprisonment
The court found all three guilty of premeditated murder for selfish motives, robbery, and illegal seizure of a vehicle (parts 6, 12 of part 2 of Article 115, part 4 of Article 187, part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The attackers were sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
