Apple Inc. is preparing to raise prices for some of its products due to the rapid increase in the cost of key components. This was stated by the company’s CEO Tim Cook in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

According to Cook, the company has long tried to compensate for the increase in component prices at its own expense, but the current situation in the memory market has become financially unprofitable even for one of the most expensive technology giants in the world.

The main reason for the possible price increase was a sharp jump in prices for DRAM and NAND flash drives – key elements for the production of iPhones, iPads, Macs and other equipment.

Experts explain: the shortage arose due to the global boom in artificial intelligence. Large IT companies are massively buying up high-performance memory for data centers and AI servers, which significantly reduces the availability of components for consumer electronics manufacturers.

According to analysts, the cost of the new iPhone Pro could increase by almost 25%, and its starting price could theoretically reach $1,299 instead of the current $1,099.

Apple has not yet specified which models will be the first to go up in price and when this will happen. However, experts suggest that the changes may primarily affect the Mac, iPad, and new-generation iPhone lines, which are traditionally expected to be unveiled in the fall.

Experts emphasize that the problem will not only affect Apple. Due to the global memory shortage, smartphones, laptops, PCs, and other electronics from various brands may soon become more expensive.
