In the UK, an AI-powered legal chatbot has helped win a court case for the first time. The Garfield AI system prepared procedural documents for a £7,000 small claims court case.

The case was won by freelancer Tamires Kamal Taqidir, who took a hospitality company to court over unpaid fees. With the help of the chatbot, she created legal letters, pleadings and other documents necessary for a three-hour trial.

The plaintiff’s interests were represented in court by barrister Dominic Lee, who confirmed that the documents prepared by AI were of sufficient quality to fully defend the client’s position.

The company notes that this is the first case where a fully AI-driven legal system not only prepared procedural documents, but actually became a key tool in winning the court case.

Garfield AI specialises in small claims up to £10,000 and offers significantly cheaper services compared to traditional law firms: the preparation of a pre-trial letter costs from £2, and a claim from £50.

In May 2025, the company became the first artificial intelligence law firm in the UK to be officially approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Lawyers say this case could set an important precedent for the further development of AI in the field of justice and citizens’ access to legal services.
