For the first time in Ukraine, a mechanism for transferring seized crypto assets to state management has been launched. Over 8.3 million USDT, equivalent to over 372 million hryvnias, has already been credited to the crypto wallet of the National Agency for Tracing and Asset Management (ARMA).
These are assets seized as part of criminal proceedings against an international hacking group that, according to investigators, carried out large-scale cyberattacks on companies and citizens in Europe and the United States.
According to law enforcement, the group members stole confidential information and demanded a ransom for its return. The funds received, according to investigators, were legalized in Ukraine through the purchase of real estate, vehicles, and other valuable property.
The losses from the group’s activities are estimated at over $100 million. As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers detained four people, including the alleged organizer of the scheme. All of them are currently in custody.
In total, assets worth over $11.1 million were seized in the case. In addition to cryptocurrency, this list includes residential buildings, apartments, cars and about $1 million in cash.
According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, this is the first such precedent in the history of Ukraine, demonstrating the state’s ability to effectively work with digital assets within the framework of criminal investigations and the management of seized property.
