Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski said that a ceasefire could come to power in Ukraine in the coming months, but there is currently no talk of a just and lasting peace.
He said this during a discussion at the YES Conference forum in Gdansk on the eve of the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine.
According to Kwasniewski, the current situation on the front and the intensification of diplomatic contacts may indicate the approach of a new stage of the war.
“I think something will happen in the coming months. Not peace, but some form of truce is quite possible,” the ex-president said.
At the same time, he stressed that under the current Russian leadership it is too early to talk about a real just peace.
Kwasniewski also drew attention to the change in the psychological situation inside Russia after the successful attacks by Ukrainian drones on Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities.
In his opinion, the current stage of the war can be described as a “storm before the calm,” and the “calm” itself may mean a ceasefire.
The ex-president emphasized that in the event of a ceasefire, Western allies should provide Ukraine with real security guarantees, as well as accelerate the process of joining the European Union.
As we will recall, Volodymyr Zelensky has previously repeatedly stated his readiness for a ceasefire and negotiations with Russia, but the Kremlin continues to put forward conditions that Kyiv considers unacceptable.
