Unprecedented geography of alarm
On the night of May 4-5, a large-scale wave of reports of missile danger was recorded in the Russian Federation. The first alarm signal was announced in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, a region located approximately 2,000 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
This may indicate a significant expansion of the zone of potential threats and a change in the nature of the security situation within the country.
Restrictions at airports
According to Russian media, 18 airports were temporarily restricted amid the alarms. Among them are large transport hubs in Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saratov and other cities.
Such measures led to disruptions in civil air traffic and affected domestic logistics.
Critical infrastructure hit
There are also reports of critical infrastructure being hit in a number of regions of the Russian Federation. Details are currently limited, but the very fact of such incidents against the backdrop of widespread alarm is increasing tensions.
Which regions are on alert
Missile alert signals were sounded, in particular, in the Astrakhan, Bryansk, Kaluga, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk regions. The alert was also announced in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Perm Krai, Mordovia, Udmurtia and other regions.
A new stage of the war
Analysts note that such events may indicate a change in the dynamics of the war. Regions that were previously considered remote rear areas no longer look completely safe.
The scale of the unrest has not only military but also psychological significance – the war is increasingly penetrating everyday life even in the deep regions of the Russian Federation.
