The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered draft law No. 14403, which provides for the return of official holidays to public holidays, which were canceled after the introduction of martial law.

The document proposes to restore the previous practice of providing additional days of rest for such public holidays as Christmas, Easter, Trinity, Constitution Day of Ukraine, Independence Day and other official dates.

After the start of a full-scale war, the rules on holidays and non-working days were temporarily changed in order to ensure the stable operation of the economy, enterprises and state institutions.

The authors of the draft law believe that now is the time to reconsider this approach and return additional days of rest to citizens.

In parallel, a petition was submitted to the government to restore official holiday weekends. Its authors emphasize that in conditions of constant air raids, night attacks, chronic stress and lack of sleep, Ukrainians need additional time for psychological recovery.

According to the initiators, the holiday weekend should not be considered as a privilege, but as an important element of supporting the mental health of the population in times of war.

The draft law is currently under consideration by parliament.
