The Verkhovna Rada does not rule out personnel changes in the leadership of the parliament in the event of the signing and ratification of possible peace agreements between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by MP Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk in an interview with the Coffee Break project on Shelter.

According to her, any international agreements on ending the war will require mandatory ratification by the Verkhovna Rada, and the position of the parliamentary leadership will directly depend on the content of such agreements.

“Even if the ratification of these agreements gains 226 votes, but this will contradict certain internal beliefs of the Verkhovna Rada leadership, it is not a fact that it will remain in its positions. It may have to be replaced by more agreeable ones,” the deputy noted.

At the same time, Vasilevska-Smaglyuk emphasized that such scenarios remain theoretical at the moment, since there are currently no specific agreements on a possible end to the war.

The People’s Deputy also emphasized that sooner or later the parliament will have to make decisions on international documents related to the end of the war, because it is the Verkhovna Rada, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law “On International Treaties of Ukraine”, that is authorized to ratify or denounce international agreements.

According to the legislation, bills on granting consent to the binding nature of international treaties can be submitted to the parliament by the President of Ukraine or the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
