Ukraine will be forced to review a number of provisions of the Constitution in connection with its future membership in the European Union and the need to adapt national legislation to European standards. This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

According to him, integration into the European Union involves not only harmonization of legislation, but also enshrining in the Fundamental Law mechanisms for transferring some powers to supranational EU institutions.

Stefanchuk emphasized that other candidate states have already gone through a similar path, which were forced to make amendments to their constitutions for full integration into the legal field of the European Union.

Separately, according to the Speaker of the Parliament, after the end of the war, Ukraine must rethink a number of key provisions related to the national security and defense system, the role of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the state, as well as guarantees of citizens’ rights and freedoms.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized that potential amendments to the Constitution should become the subject of a broad public discussion. This is a comprehensive update of the Fundamental Law, taking into account new geopolitical realities, security challenges, and Ukraine’s strategic course towards European integration.
