A project to translate the Constitution into Ukrainian Sign Language has been launched in Ukraine. Its goal is to make the state’s basic law more accessible and understandable for people with hearing impairments, as well as to promote the development of a barrier-free society.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported this.

Nine professional translators who speak different dialects of Ukrainian Sign Language were involved in the translation. Sign language specialists and lawyers are also participating in the process.

The parliament emphasizes that this approach will allow creating the most understandable version of the Constitution for sign language users from different regions of Ukraine.

The initiative has not only human rights, but also social significance, as it is aimed at expanding access to basic constitutional rights and freedoms for all citizens without exception.
